The Spartans girls lacrosse team won its 10th straight game Wednesday as their regular season came to a close, and now will start the post-season journey to another run at a state championship.

Wednesday was Senior Night for the Spartans and they came out with a runaway victory against the North Kitsap Vikings.

For the fourth straight game the Spartans scored 22 goals and took control of the game early.

The Vikings only scored two, so it was a blowout.

“This game was about the seniors and the legacy we left, it wasn’t great competition,” said senior Theo Fehsenfeld.

Olivia Smith, another senior who has been one of the leaders this season, said the game was a good one to go out and practice what the team needed to work on.

It was also nice to get the younger players some playing time.

“It is kind of bittersweet, it is sad to say goodbye to everyone, but it is really fun to play together and all be on the same page,” Smith said.

“Now we need to stay focused,” she added.

The six seniors — Fehsenfeld, Smith, Kelsey Mackin, Grace Deery Schmitt, Bea Sheffer and Chase McMahon — all had a big game for the Spartans.

Sheffer scored three goals and had three assists, Fehsenfeld also scored three.

Smith and Mackin combined to score five goals and have been the offensive leaders for the Spartans all season.

Mackin scored 59 goals this season and had 17 assists; Smith finished with 41 goals.

“We work well together,” Smith said of her fellow score-maker. “We do well off the fast breaks and just keep going.”

Offense has not been a problem this year for the Spartans as they have never scored less than 10 goals in a game. And since the beginning of April, the Spartans have averaged over 20 a game.

Wednesday’s win against the Vikings followed 22-point victories against Curtis and Stadium.

With the recent explosion of offense, Fehsenfeld said the defense and the communication with the younger teammates is what they will have to work on the most.

“Defense wins a championship, that is what our coach always says,” Fehsenfeld said.

Smith and Fedsenfeld agree a championship will be a nice closing to their high school career.

The Spartans finished the season with a 10-1-1 record and currently hold the number one overall seed, which means they will host the 16-seed team on Tuesday. The 16-seed team has yet to be determined.

“We will make it to the championship,” Fehsenfeld said. “We will do whatever it takes to make it.”
