FEBRUARY 26
12:11 a.m. An officer stopped a vehicle on SR-305 after clocking it at 57 mph in a 40 mph zone near Vineyard Lane. The driver, a Poulsbo man, provided the officer with expired registration and said he didn’t have insurance. The officer noted the man’s speech was slow and slurred. The driver told the officer he had only had “one drink of liquor” at the casino earlier and estimated that he had been driving 30 mph before being pulled over. The driver declined a breath test but performed poorly on several field tests, nearly falling over on several occasions. He was arrested for driving under the influence. The driver later supplied a breath sample that registered .130 blood alcohol content. Police transported the man to Kitsap County Jail where he was booked on $5,000 bail.
2:24 p.m. An Oregon license plate was found in the bushes near Frontier Bank. A records check identified its owner as a Clackamas, Ore., cargo business. The business was contacted and a representative from its Seattle office was sent to retrieve the plate.
3:05 p.m. A sink was torn from a wall in the newly-opened Waterfront Park bathrooms. A citizen contacted the harbormaster after finding the sink and associated plumbing lying on the floor of the men’s room. Pipes and the sensor for the automatic faucet were also damaged. Public Works estimated the repairs at $250. No suspects.
FEBRUARY 27
2:12 p.m. A Bainbridge man contacted police after receiving an unsolicited package of diet pills in the mail along with an unauthorized charge to his credit card. His statement showed a charge of $38.84 for the pills. The man researched the company and found a history of unsolicited orders being filled. The case was recorded.
3:28 p.m. A Port Orchard woman was arrested on Lynwood Center Road after an officer found she had outstanding warrants from Kitsap County and Seattle as well as a suspended license. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noted the woman’s young son was unrestrained in the back seat. The woman admitted to the warrants and was transferred to Kitsap County Jail. The child was released to his father.
5:32 p.m. A Ford F350 pickup slammed into a Toyota Prius in a parking lot near the ferry terminal. The driver of the Ford said the Toyota had been driving too fast when the collision occurred. The driver of the Toyota said the driver of the Ford may not have seen the Toyota because of its obvious size difference. Neither car was towed and no injuries were reported.
MARCH 1
1:30 p.m. Suspects apparently tried but failed to steal an in-dash stereo from a vehicle parked overnight on High School Road. The owner of the vehicle showed police scratches on the faceplate of the stereo and pry marks on a dashboard compartment. The vehicle had been locked but the owner said she was unable to secure its rear sliding window. She could not explain why prospective burglars would have closed the window and locked the doors upon exiting the vehicle. No suspects.
