Two Spartans finished in the top four of the boys and girls 3A state tournaments Wednesday, leading Bainbridge to a pair of tournament trophies.
Senior Anna Bourland placed third while sophomore Will Whealdon placed fourth, earning a third-place trophy for the girls team and a fourth-place trophy for the boys.
For the girls squad, it was the team’s fourth consecutive top-four finish.
Bourland shot three over par for a two-day total of 149 and third place, the best Spartan state placement since the girls golf team was formed, coach Steve Nielsen said. Bourland is also the first Bainbridge player to be a part of four team trophies, he said. Bourland led the Spartans to a second-place finish in 2009, finishing eighth individually. The four-time all-Metro selection will golf for Western Washington next year.
Senior Peyton Lunzer finished 24th. Lunzer shot a two-day total of 169, a five stroke improvement on last year’s score.
The Spartans scored 56 to Holy Names’ 109 and Mercer Island’s 59.
The boys team earned its fourth trophy in five years.
With three golfers in the final round, the squad team took fourth a with total score of 68.70.
Sophomores Whealdon, who was the last Spartan to qualify for state, and Bobby Griffin finished with two-day totals of 146 and 150, respectively, while senior Kyle Schneider shot 160.
Whealdon shot one over par for fourth place while Griffin was three over on both days for 14th.
Schneider will golf for Pomona next year, while junior Carl Jonson, who shot 81 Tuesday, has committed to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
Hanford won the team championship with 85.20.
