To the editor:

Thank you for reporting on Bainbridge Island Child Care Centers’ securing of a permanent home for its school-age programs in your Sept. 2 issue. It was indeed a long time in coming, and we are grateful for a sustainable solution for our non-profit, which has been serving area families for more than forty years.

The trustees wish to extend our thanks to a number of groups responsible for getting us here.

Voyager Montessori exhibited the height of community spirit by reaching out to us with the offer to purchase their facility. Their board leadership prioritized transferring the property to a non-profit educational group, and we are honored to be the recipient.

We also are deeply appreciative of the long relationship we have enjoyed with Bainbridge Island School District, which provided our school-age programs space for more than 20 years. We look forward to continuing our partnership in providing safe and engaging before- and after-school programs for district children.

Finally, our staff and families have weathered the moves and uncertainty with graciousness and loyalty that were heartening. We are eager to help shepherd this property to a space that provides the care and enrichment Bainbridge Island Child Care Centers is known for.
