He said he had been distracted because he had been through a tough day at work. As they talked the officer noted the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. His eyes appeared to be bloodshot and watery and he slurred his words. He said he had drunk one beer an hour and a half before, but had not eaten or drunk anything else. He was arrested for driving under the influence following poor performances on a breath alcohol test and field sobriety tests. A search of his vehicle turned up two syringes and a flower bud that appeared to be from a poppy, in the center console. He was booked into Kitsap County Jail.

12:57 p.m. Police responded to the ferry terminal where a woman was reportedly acting either mentally ill, or under the influence of drugs. Officers recognized the woman from previous encounters. She appeared unsteady and told them she had been taking methadone. Two tablets, later identified as Xanax, a drug she did not have a prescription for, were found in her fanny pack. The woman had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Bainbridge Municipal Court. She was arrested for the warrant and for drug posession. Fire personnel evaluated he rat the scene before she was transported to jail.

10:01 p.m. An officer parked on Miller Road recognized three passing motorcyclists, and recalled that one was a Bainbridge woman who had a 500-foot protection order against one of the other riders. The officer caught up to the female cyclist riding alone on Point White Drive and the woman pulled over voluntarily. When asked why she had been riding with the man she had a protection order against, the woman said the two had met coincidentally at a Harley Davidson shop in Silverdale, and had agreed to ride back to the island together. The woman was allowed to ride home. Officers contacted the male rider at his home and informed him he was under arrest for violating a protection order. The man struggled briefly with the officers and after a warning the officers wrestled him to the ground. The man continued to squirm and kept reaching for something in his pocket. After he was handcuffed, the man told officers he had a pipe in his pocket and asked them to throw it away. The pipe was found to contain a small amount of half-burnt marijuana. En route to jail the man threatened to sue the officers for excessive force. He also said the arrest was false because the woman had changed her name since the protection order was issued, and claimed the woman was stalking him. He was booked into jail for violating the order, resisting arrest and possession of paraphernalia. His bruises were attended to by the jail physician.

2:51 p.m. A customer called and threatened to kill an employee of a bank on Winslow Way. The customer, who had an account with the bank’s Port Angeles branch, was upset because funds from her savings account had been used to cover an overdraft from her checking account. She had threatened employees at the Port Angeles branch before calling the bank’s main office in Winslow. She told the Winslow employee that she would kill her, or get a day pass for her incarcerated husband, and have him come kill her. 8:17 p.m. Police were advised of a suicidal man armed with a knife in the area of Battle Point Park. An acquaintance said he had left the man after getting into an argument with him at the park, and that the man had threatened to cut his own throat. Police began searching for the man, and were continually updated by friends of the man who were receiving text messages from him. In one message the man said he would kill himself if he saw law enforcement. Officers located the man at the north end of the park and told him to show his hands. The man raised one hand but kept the other in his pocket and said “Kill me now, just shoot me.” He eventually complied and was taken into custody. A knife was located on his person. There were small cuts on the mans neck, apparently self inflicted. He was evaluated by fire personnel at the scene and transported to Harrison Hospital.
