Kitsap Humane Society recently elected Dr. David Sanders of Bainbridge Island as the organization’s president of the board of directors.

Sanders is the executive vice president at Casey Family Programs in Seattle, responsible for its public policy work.

He first joined KHS’ Board of Directors in January 2014 and has served on the organization’s Governance Committee, Finance and Audit Committee and was the board secretary in 2015. He brings extensive senior level administrative experience in local government and in balancing complex budgets.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to support this community as chair of the Kitsap Humane Society Board,” Sanders said.

“KHS provides the critical function of assuring that every adoptable animal in this community has a home and the organization excels at that mission,” he said.

Sanders and his wife are avid animal lovers and own two cats and two dogs.

“My goal as chair is to continue the outstanding performance of the past few years including setting adoption records and achieving and maintaining a high saved lives rate,” Sanders said.

Sanders is replacing Scott Menard, a retired teacher, who served KHS as its board president for two years. Menard stepped down from his position after serving his full term, but is still a member of the board and a weekly volunteer at the shelter as an adoption counselor.

Kitsap Humane Society is a nonprofit charitable organization that has been caring for animals in need since 1908.
