Puget Sound Energy has finished its transmission line and tower replacement work at Agate Pass.
The project, which included replacing two lattice steel towers with four steel poles and new transmission lines across Agate Pass, began in September.
Ray Lane of Puget Sound Energy said the old steel lattice towers — which support the only transmission lines carrying power from the mainland to Bainbridge Island — were built in the 1960s and had reached the end of their lifespan. Replacing the existing equipment and separating the two lines will improve the reliability of the power system, he added.
The project cost an estimated $3.5 million to $4.5 million.
In the coming weeks, PSE crews will focus on site restoration and landscaping.
PSE said beach access along Reitan Road has been re-opened to the public.
Lane also thanked the Reitan Road community, the city of Bainbridge, postal workers and garbage collection workers for their help in completing the project safely.
