Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter:
Tuesday, Oct. 21
9:49 a.m. A woman was walking on Madison Avenue from her job when a man riding past on his bicycle stopped, turned his bike around and began following her.
At one point, she looked around and saw he was standing at a street corner smiling at her in a way that made her uncomfortable.
The woman then walked to the office of a nearby apartment complex, where he followed and stood outside.
Police are familiar with the man, who officers say has a history of mental illness. He has had run-ins with Bainbridge police in the past for loitering, trespassing and petty crimes.
10:23 a.m. The handle to a home’s back sliding door was found pried off and laying on the patio at a residence on Blakely Court.
The homeowner, who is frequently traveling for business, believes the burglar fled after confronting his two large black labs.
