After leading Bishop Blanchet by as many as 23 points in the third quarter, the Spartan girls found themselves up by only three points with seven seconds remaining in regulation Tuesday.
Junior Morgan Moniz was fouled, earning two free throws to make it a two-possession ball game. But Moniz – who had missed her last three free throws – failed to convert, and Bishop Blanchet’s Tess Carthey sank a three at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
The Spartans, who turned the ball over 12 times in the second half, trailed in overtime, before sophomore Hannah Depew had a put-back to tie the game 60-60 with 20 seconds remaining.
The teams traded baskets in double overtime, until Depew scored on a driving lay-up to go up 7-28 with a minute to go.
Depew, who had 15 points and eight assists, was fouled on the next possession and went one-for-two from the stripe with 29 seconds remaining.
On Bainbridge’s last possession, senior Rebecca Sharar made a lay-up for the 73-68 win.
Sharar finished the night with 21 points, four assists and a steal.
Natalie Frank led Bishop Blanchet with 26 points.
