Basketball: Bainbridge girls win in double overtime vs. Bishop Blanchet

Junior Morgan Moniz was fouled, earning two free throws to make it a two-possession ball game. But Moniz – who had missed her last three free throws – failed to convert, and Bishop Blanchet’s Tess Carthey sank a three at the buzzer, forcing overtime.

The Spartans, who turned the ball over 12 times in the second half, trailed in overtime, before sophomore Hannah Depew had a put-back to tie the game 60-60 with 20 seconds remaining.

The teams traded baskets in double overtime, until Depew scored on a driving lay-up to go up 7-28 with a minute to go.

Depew, who had 15 points and eight assists, was fouled on the next possession and went one-for-two from the stripe with 29 seconds remaining.

On Bainbridge’s last possession, senior Rebecca Sharar made a lay-up for the 73-68 win.

Sharar finished the night with 21 points, four assists and a steal.

Natalie Frank led Bishop Blanchet with 26 points.
