Last month, the Citizens Park Task Force asked locals to weigh in on what to call the corner of Winslow Way and Highway 305 where they’ve proposed to place a park.
Ask, and you shall receive.
Suggestions have flooded into the park group’s website ever since, with names ranging from “Winslow Corner” to “The Landing.”
One local recommended “Gateway Green” to match up with “Winslow Green” at the opposite end of Winslow Way.
And yet another commenter proposed “Peace Park.”
Two names appear to have generated the most buzz on the site. One commenter suggested honoring a local figure such as the late Junkoh Harui, owner of Bainbridge Gardens. They proposed calling it “Junkoh Junction.”
The other name that impressed islanders came from Marc Zocher, who suggested “Waypoint Park.”
“Since a waypoint is a reference point in physical space used for purposes of navigation, visitors coming off the ferry could ‘find their way’ and the fact that Winslow Way intersects is appropriate,” Zocher explained.
Suggestions are still being accepted on the park group’s website at www.letsbuildapark.wordpress.com.
