Everything was going great for the Bainbridge football team.

Corey Touchette had scored on a three-yard run after a 13 play drive and things were looking up.

Then Will Devereaux missed the extra point.

Then Michael Martin ran up the gut of the Spartan defense untouched from 65 yards.

It was all Fighting Irish from then on, as O’Dea scored 56 straight points en route to a 56-20 rout of Bainbridge on Senior Night.

“We came out fired up and ready to go,” an emotional Alec Grimm said afterward. “I don’t know where it turned around, but momentum started going away (from us) and people got their heads down. I don’t know how to explain what else happened.”

O’Dea’s play did all the talking, as Martin recovered a muffed option pitch from Carson Zajonic and ran it in.

Keenan Forch scored from four yards out on the next drive. After Darrias Sine picked off a Zajonic pass, Kevin Miller threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tatum Taylor on fourth down.

Taylor scored on a 52 yard jaunt to round out the first half.

He also scored on a 53-yard run in the third quarter while Johntye Jackson scored from seven yards out to finish the scoring for the Irish.

Touchette scored on a four-yard run in the fourth while Chris Bell – filling in for a injured Zajonic – scored on a 10-yard scramble.

Despite the loss, the Spartans still have a shot at the playoffs if they beat Eastside Catholic on the road Thursday.

“I told them to just flush this one,” head coach Andy Grimm said. “It’s a pretty resilient group so I’m not worried. They’ll come to fight.”
