Congressman launches contest for Facebook photo

U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer has started a contest to find a photograph that he can use as the cover photo for his Facebook page.

U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer has started a contest to find a photograph that he can use as the cover photo for his Facebook page.

Kilmer is hoping to find a photo that represents the 6th District, which includes Bainbridge Island, most of the Kitsap Peninsula, and the Olympic Peninsula. The district also stretches south to include much of the city of Tacoma.

“Our region features some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and I’m excited to give all of my constituents an opportunity to help me share it,” Kilmer said.

For consideration in the contest, residents may submit an original, high-quality photo along with their name, photo location and a brief description to kilmer.photocontest@mail.house.gov. All entrants must own the copyrights for their submission.

The deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Kilmer, a Gig Harbor Democrat, will announce five finalists in the contest on his Facebook page on Monday, Sept. 9 and post the top five photos.

Visitors to Kilmer’s Facebook page will then be able to select the winner of the contest by “liking” their favorite of the five finalists.  Voting will end at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
