MERCER ISLAND – The Bainbridge High boys swim team placed fourth overall in the boys 3A SeaKing District 2 Championships Saturday, Feb. 15 at Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island.
The Spartans finished with a combined team score of 111, beating out teams from more than 10 other schools including O’Dea, Seattle Preparatory, Nathan Hale, Chief Sealth and Bishop Blanchet, among others.
Mercer Island took first place and won their second consecutive district title with a team score of 329.
Bellevue was listed second with 272.
The Spartans will advance 11 swimmers, with numerous alternates, to the 2014 Boys State Swimming and Diving Championships to be held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way on Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22.
In the 200-yard medley relay event, Bainbridge will be represented by Sam Alpaugh, Keenan Grant, Spencer Alpaugh and Parker Bushey.
Marcus Tonsmann will swim in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly events, and Spencer Alpaugh in the 200-yard individual medley.
Nick Williams will represent Bainbridge in the 100-yard freestyle event.
The 500-yard freestyle event will feature Bainbridge’s own James Bullock and Spencer Alpaugh.
The BHS team competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay consists of Adam Comeau, Andrew Callahan, Bill Lee and CJ Waite.
Sam Alpaugh will be the Spartan swimmer in the 100-yard backstroke.
Swimming in the 100-yard breaststroke will be Waite, Grant and Lee. The Bainbridge boys in the 400-yard freestyle relay are Callahan, Bushey, Waite and Tonsmann.
