Study looks at BHS, Blakely buildings

The Bainbridge Island School District will hold a meeting next week to present a recently completed facility analysis on the condition of school buildings on Bainbridge.

The Bainbridge Island School District will hold a meeting next week to present a recently completed facility analysis on the condition of school buildings on Bainbridge.

Tamela Van Winkle, director of facilities and capital projects for the Bainbridge Island School District, said the findings in the study confirm that several buildings are in need of replacement.

District officials said the conclusions were reviewed by a Facility Master Plan Committee comprised of community members, district staff and professionals.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the school board is considering several options related to Captain Johnston Blakely Elementary School and Bainbridge High School’s 100 Building.

The Bainbridge school board is planning a series of discussions and seeking community input prior to any decisions regarding a future bond measure.

The first meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the BHS LGI.A second meeting will be held in the library at Blakely Elementary School at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

More meetings are currently being scheduled.
