Gregoire on island Friday
As her campaign ramps up, Gov. Christine Gregoire will take to the water this week as part of a boat tour set to land Friday on Bainbridge.
The Democratic governor, who will face Republican Dino Rossi in the November election, is scheduled to arrive at the Waterfront Park dock at noon.
The 30-minute stop will include a speech and a brief meet and greet with campaign supporters.
The goal of the tour is to highlight Gregoire’s efforts to fight pollution in Puget Sound, said campaign spokesman Aaron Toso.
The tour will make seven stops in all.
It begins tomorrow in Tacoma. From there Gregoire will head north to Des Moines and Edmonds.
On Friday, after leaving Bainbridge, the governor is scheduled to stop in Bremerton.
Rossi visited the island in May to speak at a Bainbridge Island Republican Women luncheon.
Yeomalt fund climbs higher
Team Yeomalt’s Clo Copass and Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation President Amy Curran, climbed high ladders recently with “Yeomalt Green” paint to mark the Yeomalt Cabin Fund’s fir-tree-shaped progress thermometer at Ace Hardware. Thanks to a significant donation from Seattle’s Peach Foundation, recent rummage sale proceeds and other private donations, the fund total was boosted another $17,000. The contributions bring cash donations close to $230,000 of $267,000 anticipated.
“The Peach Foundation grant is noteworthy and recognizes the history of the WPA-built log hall,” Copass said. “Fund raising continues though we can see light at the end of the tunnel from atop the ladders.”
The park district board, with money in hand to begin phase one, approved commencement of restoration construction on May 22. Lawyer has a new office
Attorney Dennis D. Reynolds has opened a private practice on Bainbridge Island specializing in land use and environmental issues.
Reynolds is as an advocate in public law issues, including land use controversies.
He has 21 years of experience as a land use specialist, most recently with Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP in Seattle.
Previously he was a Public Attorney with the Washington State Office of Attorney General, representing the Department of Fish and Wildlife and as Special Counsel for the Department of Ecology.
He has worked on issues involving the Growth Management Act, Shoreline Management Act, state and federal Environmental Policy Acts, State Pollution Control Law, State Water Code, Clean Water Act, State Hydraulic Code, as well as other state, local and federal regulatory, zoning and environmental law matters.
Reynolds has represented the Home Builders Association of Kitsap County and the Builders Association of Washington.
