A Jan. 17 sailing race ended early for mariners aboard this Pearson 30 sloop “Tenacious,” which ran aground on a sandbar off Blakely Rock at 11:30 a.m. U.S. Coast Guard, local USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 48, Bainbridge Police, the Port of Seattle and a private dive boat all responded to the call. BIPD officers Ben Sias and Trevor Ziemba assisted USCG in evacuating four crewmembers from Tenacious, which was left stranded by the tide. Tenacious was taking part in a day of racing along with other boats from the Shilshole Bay Yacht Club.
