Accident claims father

A 42-year-old Bainbridge Island man was killed Sunday in a single-car accident near Poulsbo, a Washington State Patrol spokesperson said.

Jonathan Markowitz and his 8-year-old son were traveling northbound on State Route 305 near Seminole Road at about 2 p.m. when the 1977 Toyota Pickup he was driving left the roadway, went down an embankment and struck a tree, WSP spokesperson Krista Hedstrom said.

Markowitz was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was first transported to Harrison Medical Center before later being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Hedstrom on Monday said the boy had sustained a broken neck, but his condition wasn’t known. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts, she said.

The accident is still under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Swenson plays Human Jazz

This weekend, dance students on this side of the water will join with a nationally recognized movement chameleon in a performance that has been called “unclassifiable.”

As part of the Bainbridge Performing Arts “Dance Card” series, performance artist Chritian Swenson will join students from Bainbridge Dance Center on Saturday evening at BPA, as part of his “Human Jazz” performance.

Using only body and voice, Swenson draws from a global palette of styles including Indian dance, Balinese drama, scat-singing, mime-morphing, eccentric buffoonery, and Central Aisian throat-singing to take the audience on a one-of-a-kind adventure.
