The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and the city’s Historical Preservation Commission will host a special program to mark National Historic Preservation Month at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art next week.

The program — which will include the announcement of the 2012 Blakely Award winners — is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 18.

Andrea Mackin of the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association will also talk about the city’s membership in the national Main Street Program and the benefits for the community.

Ellen Southard, principal with the consulting firm Site Story, will share her study of historic structures in downtown Winslow and talk about the benefits of preservation. There will be a presentation by David Williams, chairman of the city’s Historic Preservation Commission, on historic preservation challenges. Williams will also review the properties that were recently added to the Local Register of Historical Places.

The museum will unveil new displays that illustrate the history of Bainbridge Island.

Harbour Public House is providing food and a cash bar at the event. Food tickets are $15 at the door, and net proceeds will benefit the museum.
