The word is out. Bainbridge is ready to start courting potential suitors for the currently vacant police chief position.

Strategic Government Resources — the Texas-based search firm in charge of finding the new chief — posted an online advertisement for the position Monday, Jan. 28.

According to the ad, Bainbridge seeks a candidate who will move to the island and call it their home.

Bainbridge wants someone with 10 years law enforcement experience and a minimum of five years serving at a senior level. The city prefers a candidate who has acted as police chief in a similar community.

Applicants private sector experience will be considered.

The posting asks that applicants have a bachelor’s degree, but a master’s degree in public administration or criminal justice is favorable.

The ad also notes that completion of the FBI National Academy is a big plus.

Should a candidate be hired, the new hire will be required to obtain a middle manager level certification from the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Feb. 22. Candidates can apply online at Strategic Government Resources’ website.
