BAINBRIDGE – Preview of coming attractions?

Let’s hope not.

Reigning state champion Lakeside Lions escaped with their girls swimming crown untarnished last week after delivering a 105-81 win over the Spartans in their home pool at the Bainbridge Aquatic Center.

And as for the road ahead, Lakeside posted state-qualifying marks in nine of 12 events, including the 200-yard medley relay, the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.

Bainbridge won just two of 11 races.

Even so, the Spartans saw three divers finish with 3A qualifying scores: Zora Opalka (236.40); Cammy Rouser (202.30); and Jackie Helmers (177.15).

There were other major moments, as well.

Hannah Tonsmann won the 100-yard freestyle for Bainbridge in 55.09.

Her state-qualifying time and first-place finish was followed a wink away by Lakeside’s Caroline Wagner, who came in at 55.41 for second place.

Tonsmann also led Bainbridge’s foursome in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Tonsmann, Lauren Witty, Erin Miller and Carina Laukaitis placed second in 1:45.42 (Lakeside clocked in at 1:44.85). The Spartan relayers’ time also passed the mark for state (the 3A state qualifying time is 1:45.90).

Bainbridge’s only other first in the meet came courtesy of Miller.

She placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.80.
