Bainbridge blotter | Swindled at auto repair shop

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter:

Monday, Oct. 20

9:41 a.m. A resident was charged $1,245 at a local auto repair shop. His car sat at the shop for over a month, however, and eventually had to be towed to another island repair shop where the issues were promptly fixed for $234.

The car owner believes that no actual work was done on his vehicle at the first shop and that he was charged for non-existent repairs.

The owner of the shop is currently under investigation for several fraud and theft allegations.

12:34 p.m. After returning from a downtown restaurant, a resident found a small sledge hammer sitting next to the grill on the patio. She thought this odd because before that day, it was placed elsewhere on the porch.

The following day, she noticed the front windows of her home were broken. It appeared someone used the hammer to break the window and set it down by the grill.

There was no entry made. Police could not find liftable prints on the hammer.
