Boys’ lacrosse stays undefeated with wins over Curtis, Bellevue.

Now ranked sixth in the STX-WSL boys’ Top 25 and 14th in the Lax Power West Regional rankings, the Spartans are now ranked 42nd in the ESPN RISE Powerade FAB 50 National Rankings. The team entered the rankings last week at 50.

Jacob Goodman was also recognized by ESPN RISE as he was named the West Regional Player of the Week for April 27. He was nominated thanks to his play against Bellevue April 22, when he scored three goals in Bainbridge’s 7-6 win against the defending state champs.

The Spartans also knocked off Curtis 14-5 on Tuesday to stay unbeaten at 11-0 and break up a first-place three-way tie in the Southwest Division.

Currently the team sports a point differential of +113, tops in the state. They have allowed the fewest goals all season with 54.

The Spartans travel to Issaquah to take on the high scoring Eagles in a non-league matchup Saturday. They travel to Lakeside May 4.

Girls lacrosse

The Bainbridge girls lacrosse team is having a fine season of their own.

They remain undefeated with a 18-7 win over Bellevue on Monday and a 17-7 win over Mercer Island on Wednesday.

Against the Wolverines, Jaclyn Biggers and Theo Fehsenfeld led the way with five goals apiece. Biggers also had three draw controls while Fehsenfeld had two ground balls.

Kelsey Mackin scored four goals, notched two assists and had four draw controls.

Hanna Knostman scored two goals and had two assists while Bea Sheffer had two assists, two ground balls and four draw controls.

Against Mercer Island, Biggers scored seven goals while Emma Entress, Fehsenfeld, Mackin and Sheffer each scored two goals.

The Spartans are in prime position to clinch the top seed for the state playoffs which start May 12.

They have not scored less than 12 goals during the season while Biggers and Sheffer are in the top 10 in the state for goals.

Now ranked fourth in the Lax Power West Regional rankings and sixth in the STX-WSL girls’ Top 25, the Spartans host Tacoma May 4 before wrapping up the regular season at Issaquah May 6.

Track and field

Several Bainbridge athletes placed in the top eight or set personal bests at the 39th annual South Kitsap Invitational at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard Saturday.

For the boys, Brad Wilmot took first in the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 11.5 inches. He also took fourth in the high jump with a mark of five feet, six inches.

Mark Smith took second in the high jump with a personal record of five feet, ten inches.

Joe Misenti set personal records in the pole vault (with a mark of ten feet even), the 100 (with a time of 11.99) and the 200 (with a time of 25.39).

Kyler Mikami set a personal best in the javelin with a mark of 178 feet, four inches. The throw puts him in the top ten for the 3A classification.

Cameron Brink took fourth in the discus with a throw of 134 feet, three inches. He is currently in the top ten for the 3A classification with a throw of 142 feet, four inches set at the Seattle Prep/Eastside Catholic meet on April 20.

Sean LaBelle set a personal record in the 800 meter run with his third place finish of 2:03.92 while Corey Dunn set a personal record in the 400 meter dash with his seventh place finish of 54.39.

For the girls, Pearl Terry set a personal best with her second place finish of 2:28.56 in the 800 meter run.

Isabel Ferguson took second in the high jump with a mark of four feet, ten inches. She also took eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.61.

Katherine Bond took eighth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.36.

Anna Misenti took seventh in the 3200 meter run and set a personal record with a time of 13:03.51.

Julia Thomas set a personal record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:55.79.

The Spartans took on Nathan Hale, West Seattle and Franklin at Nathan Hale Thursday, but results were not available as of press time.

Baseball

The Bainbridge baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision to Bishop Blanchet on Friday then were beaten by Lakeside 12-8 Tuesday. Against the Braves, Blanchet broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning.

Connor Loudon took the loss.

Robbie Ackerley was 2 for 3 with a run scored while JJ Wilford was 2 for 2 with a RBI.

Against Lakeside, Bainbridge went down 9-1 before scoring seven runs over the last three innings to make it close.

The Spartans (5-9 overall) traveled to Rainier Beach Thursday, but results were not available as of press time.

Fastpitch

The Bainbridge fastpitch team got back to winning ways with a 7-0 win over Bishop Blanchet Friday.

Against the Braves, Katie Raben got the start and was dominant. She gave up only one walk and two hits while striking out 14. Raben also went 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBI.

Clara Dunn went 2 for 3 with a home run and a run driven in while Taylor Greenfield doubled and drove in a run.

Bainbridge traveled to Rainier Beach Thursday, but results were not available as of press time.

They host Ingraham at 4 p.m. Friday.

Boys soccer

The Bainbridge soccer team lost a 3-2 non-league game to 4A Newport April 20, then were upset 1-0 by Eastside Catholic on Tuesday.

Alex Raquer scored two goals – one coming on the first penalty kick of the year for the Spartans – but the Spartans lost when the Knights’ Kyle Savette scored his second goal of the game at the 74th minute.

Against the Crusaders, Spencer Spears scored in the 47th minute off a Joe Mancini assist.

Bainbridge, now ranked 10th in the Seattle Times’ 3A state poll, is a point behind Lakeside for the Metro League Mountain Division lead.

The Spartans travel to Chief Sealth Friday, then host North Kitsap at 1 p.m. Saturday.
