The Spartans took on the Fighting Irish of O’Dea last week only to suffer a crushing 37-3 defeat.

It was the final home game of the season for Bainbridge Island. The determined island players fought fiercely under cold and piercing rain.

In the end, despite a second quarter, 28-yard field goal delivered by Sam Kallas, O’Dea was able to prevent Bainbridge from coming close to the end zone for the remainder of the game.

The visiting team from Seattle then continued to rack up touchdowns. O’Dea went home with a 34-point lead over the Spartans.

The Fighting Irish came out strong and began taking over territory on the score board with a field goal during the first quarter.

The Spartans managed to retaliate and claim their own three points in the second quarter.

But it wasn’t enough to stay afloat under the waves of Irish touchdowns headed their way.

O’Dea advanced to the end zone twice in the second quarter giving them a 17-3 advantage at halftime. They scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to move in front 31-3.

A final touchdown, with a  missed kick, capped the scoring at 37-3 in the fourth quarter.

The Spartans managed 30 carries for 75 yards.

Max Wysong finished with 60 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Bainbridge mustered 64 yards of air offense, with quarterback Paimon Jaberi completing 9-of-16 throws with no interceptions.

Alex Coplan hauled in four passes for 43 yards. Matt Stone had one reception for seven yards, while fellow Spartan Sam Kallas had two catches for seven yards.

On the defensive side, Kallas led the Spartans with 12 unassisted tackles. Jay Terry had nine unassisted tackles, and Nick Bierly, Dan Drewry and Justin Totura added seven each.

The Spartans have one final game to go this season. They will play an away game at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Seattle’s Memorial Stadium against the West Seattle Wildcats.
