Bonkowski’s skills would be welcome | Letters | July 29

He has dealt with employees, unions, budgets, agencies and local, state and federal laws. Although helping to run a very large company is different than helping to run a city, the skills he has learned would definitely be very useful to the council.

I met Steve a couple of months ago and was quite impressed with his background in business. Since that time I have gotten to know him well.

Steve was a vice president of Northrop Grumman and was responsible for consolidating departments and facilities, cutting costs, streamlining regulations and coordinating long range planning.

He has dealt with employees, unions, budgets, agencies and local, state and federal laws. Although helping to run a very large company is different than helping to run a city, the skills he has learned would definitely be very useful to the council.

On the personal side he is very easy to get along with. His style is collaborative and he tries to see things positively.

His approach to issues starts by organizing his thoughts and thoroughly doing the research. And then talking with people. Many times, after talking with someone, he hands them his email address and lets them know he’s available.

He knows the council’s responsibilities in creating policy and he knows that communicating with people is unquestionably required to make our city work.

He used to work 12 hours a day, six days a week. He is ready to put in the long hours needed to be a council member.

I feel strongly that his talents and his love for the island would absolutely benefit the council.
