Ted Treanor, age 89, was born in New York City on Jan. 31, 1927, to Edward Treanor Sr., a native of New York, and Bernice Payne Rice Treanor of Virginia. He passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016.

Ted graduated at age 16 from Onancock High School in Virginia in 1943. He attended the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1950. Some 20 years later he completed a master’s degree in counseling at Seattle University, followed by his doctorate’s degree.

Employment included a hitch in the Army at the end of World War II; service with the American Red Cross; as well as with the Department of Navy. Ted spent 10 years in the consumer electronics business, followed by two decades in a career that he loved as a college counselor and professor at Highline Community College, retiring in 1992.

Ted was preceded in death by his son, James Wesley Treanor. He is survived by his wife, Peg Treanor of Bainbridge Island; daughter Leslie Taft Treanor of Shoreline; son Ted M. Treanor III of Poulsbo; and daughter Anne Winstead Treanor Miska of Seattle. He is survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The Treanor family roots in the Seattle-Bainbridge Island area goes back seven generations to the 1880s.

Family, friends and church were his priorities. Ted was a crooner. It started in his youth when he was in the boys’ choir. He loved to sing, which he continued to enjoy every day at every opportunity. He lived in the same home where he resided since 1960.

Ted and Peg spent as much time as possible on their sailboat, mostly in Canadian waters from Victoria BC, the Gulf Islands, Vancouver, B.C. and Desolation Sound — a real favorite special place. They also enjoyed extended trips around the United States and Europe as well as Mexico, and the U.K. including visiting family in Ireland.

He was a charter stockholder of the Wing Point Golf & Country Club, and a longtime member of the Port Madison Yacht Club, and was a founding member of Grace Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Grace Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island.

Remembrance can made to Grace Episcopal Church on Bainbridge or a favorite charity.
