Winery owner caused his own ‘code’ problem | Letters |Dec. 2

The title of the article last week, “City codes threaten winery,” is wrong. It should read, “Winery willfully violates city ordinance.”

Mr. Wilford knew what the constraints on a home business were when he signed the permit. Now it sounds as though he wants a growing business, not a home hobby, and does not like the constraints. Too bad.

No neighbor wants to have the winery’s fruit flies, smells and a bunch of barrels next door to them for a number of weeks. The neighbors and community are protected from these intrusions by the constraints put in the business ordinance.

If Mr. Willford truly wants a growing business (if you want to run with the big dogs then get off the front porch), he and others like him should lease a shared space in an industrial complex and get serious. Otherwise, just go back to a home hobby.

Please don’t rationalize or blame the city; you caused your own problems.
