The Battle of the Ballfields, the pivotal fundraiser and get-together for the Bainbridge Island Little League, will be held at Rotary Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
“Our Battle of the Ballfields is our annual fundraising event that we hold in combination with a baseball/softball skills competition,” said Tim Duffy, president of the Bainbridge Island Little League. “It’s a festive event with DJs and hot dogs; our snack shack will be open.”
Some of the skills competitions include the “most accurate pitching” and “fastest base running” events, among others.
Taking the field at noon will be this year’s Challenger Division squad.
The Challenger Division of Little League was established in 1989 as a separate division to enable boys and girls with special physical and mental challenges to enjoy the game of baseball.
The Bainbridge Island Challenger Mariners team has enjoyed five straight undefeated seasons.
“The Challenger Division is an important aspect of our overall league,” Duffy said. “We pair the challengers up with one of our majors teams every week to play with them as they hit and field.”
