Florence Hill Anderson

Catherine Florence Hill Anderson, 102, of Bremerton, died May 7 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 30, 1901, in Fond du Lac, Wisc., to Walter A. and Ida Mae Hill. She attended school in Enderline, N.D.

She married Russell Anderson on Dec. 6, 1923, in Moorhead, Minn. She and her husband were farmers until 1926, when they moved to Spring Valley, Wisc., to become shopkeepers in a variety store.

In 1931, they returned to Enderline and opened their own store, which they operated until the Depression; they then moved to Bremerton, where she worked as a supply clerk at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during the war.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; she was a member of the Lutheran faith, and attended United Methodist Church in Bremerton.

She is survived by nieces Myrna Hill Johnson of Bainbridge Island, Barbara Hill Stanley of Ranch Mirage, Calif., Sandra Hill of Keyport, Ardis Fretland Brown of Roseburg, Ore., and Lois Fretland Newby of Orange, Calif.; nephew Fredrick Bohm, Jr., of Enderlin, N.D.; sister-in-law Jessie McCarthy of St. Paul, Minn.; and many grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters Doris Fretland and Gladys Bohm, and brother James L. Hill.

A small family gathering will be held at the mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bremerton.
