Jerrold Funke, age 57, died May 8 at his Bainbridge residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1945 in Bremerton, to Theodore and Zelma (Krafczik) Funke.
Following graduation from West Bremerton High School in 1963, he joined the Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam in the infantry and as a helicopter pilot, earning the Bronze Star and Air Medal.
His civilian career spanned more than 25 years in the real estate industry.
In 1996, he changed direction and began work in the maritime industry in boat detailing, yacht sales and as a shipwright with the Boat Company in Poulsbo. Ill health forced him to retire in January 2001.
He enjoyed sailing his boat, the Cayenne, cooking for friends and family and watching the Mariners.
He was preceded in death by is son Aaron in 1990. He is survived by his friend and partner, Sue Fowler, and her children, Molly Nettlebeck of Seattle; Joshua and Billie Nettlebeck of Poulsbo; Sue’s mother, Margaret Fowler of Bainbridge Island; his daughter Lelaine (John) Keith and children Arianna, Noah and Carrie; and two brothers, Dennis Funke of Federal Way and William Funke of Spokane.
A celebration of his life will be held 1-4 p.m. June 23 at Seabold Hall. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County.
