Longtime island resident Gertrude Keefe, age 92, died Oct. 29 at Bessie Burton Sullivan Care Center in Seattle.
She was born Dec. 17, 1909 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Karl and Margaret (Anderson) Odin.
After graduating from Hunter College (now a part of City University) in New York, she pursued a career in primary education.
She married Edward Keefe in New York City in 1936. She taught for four years in New York City and for over 30 years in New Jersey, principally in Bernardsville.
When her husband Edward retired in 1969, they moved to Bainbridge to be near their son and grandson.
Gertrude enjoyed her retirement years here and involved herself with gardening, knitting, dogs and golf at Wing Point Golf and Country Club.
She is survived by her son Richard of San Juan Island and grandson Roderic of Seattle.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1998.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.
