David “Dave” Crowell Lewis died at home in Seattle on Dec. 12, following a fight with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Los Angeles Oct. 28, 194, Dave lived his life in the Puget Sound as a long-time resident of Bainbridge Island, as well as Bellevue and Seattle. He was a graduate of Bellevue High School and Western Washington University, in Bellingham, where he remained a member of the Western Washington University Alumni Association.
A production engineer for the Boeing Company until his death, Dave had a 20-year career with the company and was a member of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA). He was an avid sailor and a member of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association. Last year, Dave and his son Kael placed first in the 2008 District 6-Star Boat Racing Championship.
Dave will be remembered as a devoted father, loving brother, faithful friend and loyal and nurturing partner. He had a passion for sailing that could only be matched by his love for his children and those closest to him. A youthful spirit and love for the wind and waves will be his legacy to all who were fortunate enough to be in his life.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father Phyllis Carlotta Fullen Lewis and Clarence Edward Lewis, of Bellevue and Pauma Valley, Calif.; and a brother, Stephen Edward Lewis of Roseburg, Ore.
He is survived by his son Kael Davidson Lewis; daughter Emily Rose Lewis, both of Bainbridge Island; sister Diana Lewis Woodward of Sutherlin, Ore.; brother John Dayton Lewis of Kirkland; and partner Anne DeBruyn. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
His remains will be spread in the Pacific Northwest waters that he loved so dearly.
