Bainbridge Island resident, Agnes Josephine “Jo” O’Neill Beckett, age 86, died June 22 at Island Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born Feb. 19, 1916 in Clearfield, Penn. She lived in Altoona, Penn. from age five to thirteen. She then moved to New Rochelle, N.Y., where she lived until graduating from high school.
She attended college in Virginia and later the Columbia School of Dental Hygiene. She spent many years as a dental hygienist before and after a 15-year break, when she raised her four boys.
She was married to cartoonist Jim Raymond (creator of the cartoon strip “Blondie”) for fourteen years.
She later married to Bill Husted; the couple lived in Florida, where she took up real estate sales and became an avid golfer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Bill Husted, who died in 1971.
She is survived by four sons: James Raymond of Los Gatos, Calif.; Neill Raymond of Bainbridge Island; Charles Raymond of Tipton, Mo. and Paul Raymond of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Suzanne Desvernine of Marietta, Ga.; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A rosary will said at 7:30 p.m. June 26 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at conducted at 11 a.m. June 27 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Burial will be in Clearfield, Penn.
