Frank M. Drebick

Former Bainbridge Island resident Frank M. Drebick died Oct. 25 at his home in Saratoga Retirement Community Health Care Center, in Saratoga Calif., just three weeks after celebrating his 100th birthday with family and friends.

He was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Rock Springs, Wyo., to parents who had been born in Austria and came to America so his father could work in the coal mines, similar to his Slovakian roots.

Drebick moved to Washington state after he graduated from high school in the 1920s and began a career with Puget Sound Power and Light Company — now Pacific Energy, Inc. — that lasted over 45 years. He started out reading meters in newly electrified rural Western Washington then progressed to sales, selling appliances, then became sales manager.

On March 2, 1935, he married Anne Admski. In 1946, the couple moved to Bainbridge Island for him to take the position of local manager for Puget Sound Power and Light Co. at its office in Winslow, in the building that is now Cafe Nola, and worked there until he retired in 1970.

He was very active in community affairs, including the Rotary Club. He and his wife were also members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. He was well-known among friends and family for his cooking at holiday events and picnics. Cooking was a skill he learned to sell electric stoves, but became something he enjoyed doing for others.

After the couple moved to Seattle in the mid 1970s, he continued his activities helping others, especially cooking in the Family Kitchen program at St. James Cathedral where they were members.

He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughter, Marsha Burdick and her husband Brad of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren, David Raymaker and his wife Ann of Morgan Hill, Calif.; Chris Raymaker and his wife Lori of Poulsbo; Amy Kimbrough and her husband Kris of Sunnyvale, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Janelle and Kristin Raymaker, Cayla and Adam Raymaker and Emma Kimbrough; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 2 at Queen of Apostles Church in San Jose, Calif. Gravesite services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle.
