Longtime Bainbridge Island resident Michael Antone Tarabochia, age 80, died June 24 at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1921 in Astoria, Ore. to John B. and Mary (Scrivinich) Tarabochia.
He grew up on Bainbridge Island, graduating from Bainbridge High School in 1941.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He left the Army in 1946. On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Bettie Brigham in Seattle.
He led a career as a purse seiner for Alaska Packing in Kodiak, Alaska, and for Salmon and Smelt in the Puget Sound area. He also worked as a carpenter and remodeler.
He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed gardening, sport fishing, and traveling with Bettie. He was also a longtime member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Bettie of Bainbridge; son Mike Tarabochia of Bainbridge; daughters Kathy (Craig) Parker of Medina, Wash., and Susan (Kevin) Teismann of Clearwater, Fla; brother Dominic Tarabochia of Seattle; and eight grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held 7 p.m. June 28 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. A mass will be held 11 a.m. June 29 at St. Cecilia. Interment will be in Kane Cemetery in Pt. Madison, Wa.
