Mildred Layton Osterman, 98, died Feb. 21 at Madison Avenue Retirement Center.
She was born March 5, 1905, in Nanking, China, the daughter of medical missionaries Edwin Aid Layton and Jessie Trunkey Layton.
She graduated with a degree in home economics from the University of Washington, where she was a member of Kappa Delta and the Women’s University Club.
She was married on Sept. 21, 1929. She was a member of the Lake Burien Presbyterian Church for over 70 years.
She is survived by daughter Gayle (Paul) Robbins of Bainbridge Island, son Henry (Susan) Osterman of Seattle; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. March 5 at the Madison Avenue Retirement Center. Inurnment will be at Acacia-Seattle. Remembrances can be made to the Seattle Symphony, P.O. Box 2108, Seattle WA 98111-2108, or to the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.
