James J. “Jim” Daly, age 71, of Bainbridge Island died Jan. 16 after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
He was born June 21, 1931, in Ketchikan, Alaska. He attended grade school in Ketchikan, and high school at Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Ill., graduating in 1949.
He earned a degree in electrical engineering at Stanford University in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, Calif., from 1955-56, and retired from the Alaska State Ferry System in 1994.
He is survived by his daughter Colleen Thompson of Bakersfield, Calif., and grandsons Brian and Jesse; brother John and nephew Mark Lynne of Bainbridge, and sister Margaret Lynne of Ketchikan.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle. Remembrances may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, or the American Cancer Society.
