Manuel Hojos Bucsit

Manuel Hojos Bucsit of Bainbridge Island died March 14.

He was born June 14, 1911, in Bacnotan, Philippines to Feleciano and Lorenza Bucsit.

In 1928, at the age of 16, he arrived in Seattle and settled on Bainbridge Island.

He met Evangeline Thorne in 1939 and they were married at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in 1942. In addition to raising three sons and a daughter, they welcomed other family members into their home.

He was a strawberry farmer and later worked at Winslow and Todd Shipyards, retiring in 1976. Besides his family, he enjoyed gardening and playing his saxophone.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evangeline Thorne Bucsit; son Bill Bucsit and his wife, Mary of Kenmore; son Jim Bucsit of Shoreline, and Sandy (Bucsit) McDowall of Seaside, Ore.; son Ken Bucsit of Shoreline; daughter Vicki Kimble of Roseville, Calif.; Dixie Meyers and her husband Tim of Bothell; Pauline Quinanola of Seattle; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rosary and viewing were March 18 at Beck’s Funeral Home in Edmonds. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. March 19 at Holyrood Cemetery Mausoleum, 205 N. 205th Street in Shoreline.
