Dr. Dirk Jan Bartelink passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014 at his residence on Bainbridge Island. He was 81.

He was born Oct. 28, 1933 in the Netherlands, and moved to Canada where he met and married Donna Maurie Merifield and was a loving husband for 58 years.

He was a wonderful father to his two children. Debbie Jones who is married to Gary they have three children; Jennifer, Brian and Andrea and all reside in Mesa, Arizona. John Bartelink who is married to Kirsten they have two children; Aidan and Anja and live in Shoreline, Washington.

He was a personal and caring grandfather who enjoyed sharing his experiences, teaching, making projects and talking about his sailing adventures with his grandchildren.

Dirk was a graduate of Stanford University with his doctorate’s degree in applied physics and spent the majority of his life devoted to the furthering of science. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club of Bainbridge Island and a past commodore and member of the Poulsbo Yacht Club.

He leaves behind his brother and sisters who reside in Canada.

A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Bainbridge Island at a future date.
