A community celebration for the late Bob McAllister will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 in the commons at Bainbridge High School.

McAllister, a well-known poet and author on Bainbridge who taught English and drama at Bainbridge High for 35 years, passed away at the age of 73 on Aug. 18.

Donations in McAllister’s name can be made to Helpline, IslandTime, KUOW, Doctors without Borders and OXFAM.  Information for donors will be available at the ceremony.

His family also noted that over his life he preferred to give money to friends in need. It was a very personal thing, and something he wanted to pass on, so the best gift in his memory would be to have a conversation with someone who is in financial difficulties and help as you can.
