The Utility Advisory Committee has three appointed positions that will soon need volunteers; two from committee members whose terms will expire on June 30, and one from the earlier resignation of the committee’s chairman Dan Mallove.
Interviews for the advisory group have not yet been scheduled, but the city of Bainbridge Island is hoping to conduct them sometime next week.
City council members are chosen by rotation to conduct interviews for the city’s committees and commissions. Councilwoman Sarah Blossom and Councilman Steve Bonkowski have been selected to interview the candidates for the Utility Advisory Committee.
Committee members Jeff Kanter and Arlene Buetow, whose terms are coming to a close in June, have both reapplied for their seats on the advisory group.
Former council members Bill Knobloch and Barry Peters have also applied. Both men served as ex officios to the committee during their time on the council.
Islander Eric Turloff has also submitted an application to sit on the committee. Turloff is a local accountant with experience in finance.
Should Buetow and Kanter be re-seated, it would leave three candidates vying for the final seat.
The committee can have seven to nine members. It has previously asked the council to keep the number of its members at an odd number. Therefore, if the council members opted to, they could technically seat all applicants to round out the committee at nine members.
Islander Nancy Transue had also had applied but took her name out of consideration on Wednesday.
City officials released the applications of the committee candidates earlier this week. Bainbridge Island had originally refused to release the public records, claiming the documents were exempt from disclosure because they were applications for employment with the city.
The city reversed course after a request for reconsideration by the Review.
