Elmer Donald Stewart

Elmer “Don” Donald Stewart, 82, died March 18 at his Brentwood, Calif., home after a short illness.

He was a native of Kansas City, Mo., lived in Brentwood prior to moving to Bainbridge Island, and returned to California five years ago.

He served as a pilot during World War II and received a Presidential Citation. He was employed by Sound Publishing on Bainbridge Island from 1995-97 as a driver, then as a classified advertising representative.

He was a practicing member of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Boone Stewart, of Brentwood; children Melody Stewart, Heather Stewart and Kristin Porter of California, Greg Stewart of Oregon, and Shelly Alkire of Missouri; six grandchildren; and sisters Patricia Snelling of Washington and Shirley Schwall of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Stewart.

A celebration of life was held April 2 at Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood, Calif. Memorial services with military honors will be at 1 p.m. July 3 at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge
