Helen B. Alyea
Helen Alyea died on June 16 in Mesa, Ariz. after a short illness. She was born Jan. 9, 1927 to Leonard and Susan Weed in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
She married Robert M. Leonard in 1946 and raised their family on Bainbridge Island.
In 1977, Helen married Jay W. Alyea of Poulsbo. They retired to Mesa, Ariz. in 1982. Alyea was very active in the Apache Wells Women’s Golf Association and hit four holes-in-one at Apache Wells Country Club. She participated in many Shrine activities and served on various committees.
She was preceded in death by Robert M. Leonard, her three brothers, one sister and stepdaughter Jayne Wallace.
Helen is survived by her husband, Jay W. Alyea of Mesa; daughters Patricia Mitchell of Bellingham, Janet Cater of Samish Island, Roberta Weaver of Seattle, son Robert F. Leonard of Seattle; stepsons Kenneth Alyea of Shelton and Donald Alyea of Mesa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private family celebration of life is planned in August. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice in her memory.
