Crosswalks dangerous for many island seniors | Letters | Jan. 1

Bainbridge senior citizens face danger on an almost daily basis at a pedestrian crosswalk between Bjune Drive and Madison Avenue at the Bon Bon store across from Eagle Harbor Congregational Church.

This crossing is used frequently by many seniors who live west of that area. They literally take their lives in their hands as they proceed to and from the downtown shopping area.

Our Well Being Committee at the Senior Center hears numerous accounts of fast-driving traffic and failure to stop, even though the crossing is well marked.

One of our members barely escaped with her life as she proceeded to cross, trusting that the driver would see her and stop. It was only because of her quick thinking and good reflex action that she survived.

Please notice the pedestrian sign and slow down!
