Watch out for museum move

Feb. 25 is the big moving day for the main museum building, the Bainbridge Island Historical Society announced Friday.

The long-awaited relocation of the old schoolhouse from Strawberry Hill Park to the new museum campus on Ericksen Avenue, next to the Playhouse, will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning under the supervision of Bainbridge Police.

While no morning or afternoon school bus routes should be affected, BIHS says, motorists should be prepared for delays and take alternative routes while the building is in transit.

Approximate schedule:

9-9:45 a.m.: Museum moves down High School Road from Strawberry Hill Park to Fletcher Bay Road.

9:45-10:40 a.m.: Building travels on Fletcher Bay Road to New Brooklyn Road.

10:40-11:20 a.m.: New Brooklyn Road from Fletcher Bay Road to Mandus Olson Road.

11:20 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.: New Brooklyn from Mandus Olson Road to Sands Avenue.

12:45-1:45: New Brooklyn from Sands Avenue to Madison Avenue.

1:45-2 p.m. Museum travels through the Madison Avenue roundabout.

2-3:15 p.m. Madison Avenue roundabout to Madison/Wyatt intersection.

3:15-4 p.m. Madison Avenue to City Hall/the Playhouse.

Bad weather may alter or postpone the move.

Grand Forest flasher busted

An Illinois man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in the Kitsap County Jail, after being convicted of misdemeanor indecent exposure a week earlier in the Grand Forest.

Steven P. Moore, age 36, was arrested Feb. 11 after exposing himself to a woman walking her dog in the forest. The victim said a man sitting at a picnic table near the trail called out to get her attention, then displayed his genitalia. She ran off and called police.

A Bainbridge officer recognized the suspect from his description, having contacted Moore in the Grand Forest for unrelated reasons the previous day.

Moore was arrested at a relative’s home on Fieldstone Lane, where he was staying. He was in Washington to help the relative move, according to reports.

Prosecutors expedited the case by charging Moore with a misdemeanor offense in Bainbridge Island Municipal Court.

Before the bench of Judge Steve Holman, Moore stipulated to the facts as presented in the police report and waived his right to a trial.

A request that he be allowed to return to Illinois to serve out his sentence was denied, and he was remanded to the county jail in Port Orchard.

As part of the sentence imposed by Holman, Moore must undergo a psychosexual evaluation. He has been convicted of public indecency three times in the past two years in Illinois, and is required to register as a sex offender.

He is also wanted for a probation violation in his home state.

“The indication in court was that he’s probably going to spend some time in jail when he gets back there,” Holman said.
