“Former city councilman Andy Maron will represent Bainbridge Island on the newly created Kitsap County Public Facilities District.A resolution passed by county commissioners earlier this year authorizes the PFD to acquire, build and operate public projects in the county for sports, entertainment and recreational uses. Some could be public/private partnerships.The group will begin meeting in early September.The board’s function is to develop a plan for recreational facilities in the county, Maron said. But we will then have to go to the voters for funding before anything is actually built.Maron will be one of seven board members appointed to represent the four cities and three commissioner districts in Kitsap County.The board will include attorney Rick Smith of commissioner district three (Central Kitsap); Cary Bozeman of commissioner district two (South Kitsap); S.N. Cy Wyse of commissioner district one (North Kitsap); Donna Gross of Port Orchard; and Linda Berry-Maraist of Poulsbo. Bremerton has not yet named a representative.District representatives were picked by their respective county commissioners. Maron was recommended for appointment by Mayor Dwight Sutton, and was confirmed by the county commissioners.All members will serve four-year terms, but three of the initial seven members will serve two-year terms. Those members include Berry-Maraist, Bozeman and the Bremerton representative. The positions are not paid.Maron is not certain that any new island-based facility will fall within the board’s purview, which is to examine projects that would see “
