The Bainbridge boys lacrosse team started slow, but got into the groove as they defeated the Garfield Bulldogs 12-6 in a state semifinal game at BHS.

The Spartan defense held the Bulldogs to two goals through the first three quarters while Sam Snow had a hat trick and Fiore Alailima, Casey Skelton, Evan Wright and Bjorn Ostenson scored as well.

The girls doubles team of Jamie Slonaker and Brooke Shorett made it to the district championship by defeating Kerry Gugliotto and Stefanie Johnson of Skyline 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 but lost to Lauren Whatley and Catherine Phelps of Lakeside 6-2, 0-6, 2-6.

Molly Donohue took home the fourth seed to state as she lost to Rachel Storz of Holy Names and Anissa Bryant-Swift of Sammamish.

But the girls got enough points from their wins to edge Lakeside for the district title, the first in head coach Mike Anderson’s tenure at Bainbridge.

The boys lacrosse team meets Mercer Island in the championship game Saturday at Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center at 7 p.m.

Donohue, Slonaker and Shorett travel to Tri-Cities for the 3A state tournament next weekend.

The girls lacrosse team will try to join the boys at Memorial Stadium when they play at Mercer Island tomorrow at 6 p.m.

The fastpitch team tries for state at the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila.

They play Ingraham in a loser-out game tomorrow at 11 a.m.
