After a successful fall session, the local GoGirlGo! program is set to start their spring session April 9.
The program, developed by the Women Sports Foundation, is a mix of athletic and thinking activities for fifth and sixth grade girls of all athletic interests to help enhance their lives emotionally, athletically and socially.
The session ends with an optional 1-mile road race at Viking Fest May 19.
It will be taught by local runners Heidi Washenberger and Anne Howard Lindquist and runs through May 16.
The sessions will be held at Sakai Intermediate School on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m.
The cost is $80 and it includes a t-shirt, a scrapbook/journal, a parent’s guide and a healthy snack. Scholarships are available.

Last season, 16 girls participated in the fall session, with all of them taking part in the run.
BIGC finishes in top ten
The Bainbridge Island Club girls’ gymnastics team traveled to Lake Oswego, Ore. for the Rose City Challenge March 2-4.
The Level 7 team competed against 12 teams and placed fifth with a score of 109.125.
Kathleen Callahan placed second overall in her age division with a 36.075. She was second on the balance beam,
Jacklyn Foris was third in the all-around with 35.825. Foris placed first on the floor exercise with a 9.225 and finished third on the bars.
Annie Zuckerman had second place finishes on vault and floor exercise. She also placed third on the beam and earned an all-around score of 35.575.
The Level 5 team earned a sixth place title with a score of 106.80.
Marielle Summers was named most valuable gymnast with her fourth place finish in the all-around division for her age group with a score of 36.15. She earned second place finishes on vault and bars, and placed fourth on the floor exercise.
Divers score at local meet
The Bainbridge Island Diving Club played host to the Seattle Diving Club March 10 for a beginner and intermediate divers meet at the Bainbridge Island Aquatics Center.
In the Recreation division, Gregory Millican competed on both the one meter and three meter springboards winning a gold medal for first place in the 10 and under boys age group. First time diver Jordan Parker also competed on both boards in the boys 11-13 age group, winning a gold medal for first place with a score of 144.45.
Genevieve Hill competed in the girls 11-13 event and scored well enough to take home gold from her first meet with a score of 150.35, the highest total score in this division.
Nick Badzik stepped up for the 14-15 boys age group and scored 149.75, good enough for first place and another gold medal for the Bainbridge Island divers.
In the Intermediate division, first time competitor Shannon Engelbrecht took on the 10-11 girls age group scoring 174.55 on the one meter springboard and 171.30 on three meter springboard taking home a silver medal for each event.
For the boys, Lucas Weyand did the job in the 9 and under age group with a score of 117.45 on the one meter board and a score of 113.00 on the three meter board. He took home two gold medals for his efforts.
