UPDATE — Corrects date of crash, adds name of victim

A 49-year-old Bremerton man died following a one-car crash on Finch Road Wednesday morning.

Kenneth L. Bacon was traveling northbound when his commercial plumbing van veered across the oncoming lane and left the roadway south of the Sportman Club Road turnoff, around 9:30 a.m.

The van glanced off several trees before coming to a stop.

A neighbor who heard the crash found Bacon unresponsive behind the wheel. Aid crews arrived moments later and Bacon was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt, and the nature of his injuries were unclear.

“There wasn’t a significant amount of damage apparent” to the vehicle, Bainbridge Police Det. Scott Weiss said.

Bacon was alone in the vehicle, and investigators have yet to determine why the vehicle left the roadway. Alchol and speed were not believed to be factors.

“We looked at it and looked at it, and we can’t see fatality injuries out of this collision,” Deputy Chief Mark Duncan said, “but it does happen.”
