This year’s snow days will mean school on Saturdays for seniors at Bainbridge High.
The Bainbridge Island School Board has moved the last day of school back because of inclement weather that led to canceled classes this winter.
But the last day of school hasn’t been shifted for seniors at BHS, which means those students will need to attend school on three Saturdays to make up for missed time before graduation day.
The Bainbridge Island School Board unanimously passed a resolution at its meeting earlier this month that will require high school seniors to attend school on Saturdays in order to make up for two missed days in February.
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction requires that school districts make up any days of school that were missed due to inclement weather.
The school board has moved the last day of school from Monday, June 19 to Wednesday, June 21 for all other students in the district.
In order to avoid impacting the graduation date for seniors, the district is asking students to attend three four-hour sessions of Saturday school on April 15, 22 and 29. Classes will be held 8 a.m. to noon.
In a letter to parents and families in the district, BHS Principal Duane Fish said seniors could only miss Saturday classes if they were properly excused.
