Auditions begin for BPA’s ‘Priscilla’

Singers, dancers, drag queens: Bainbridge Performing Arts is looking for you.

In that order or not, BPA will host auditions for their upcoming production of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the Musical” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13 and from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16.

Based on the hit movie, the musical recounts the heartwarming, uplifting adventure of three friends — Tick, Bernadette and Adam — a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who take their show to the middle of the Australian outback. They hop aboard a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla) searching for love and friendship and end up reaching their wildest dreams.

The production includes roles for 20-30 actors, singers, dancers and drag queens, ages 18 and up, plus one 8- to 11-year-old boy.

Those auditioning are requested to prepare a 1- to 2-minute monologue and 32 bars of a disco or ’80s pop songs that show range and individual character.

Run dates are Oct. 13-15, Oct. 20-22 and Oct. 27-29, with a pay-what-you-can preview set for Oct. 12. Rehearsals are Aug. 12 through Oct. 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

At the upcoming auditions, an accompanist will be provided, but those autitioning must bring sheet music; clearly marked and in a three-ring binder.

No outside accompanists or a capella singing will be allowed.

All roles are open to audition, and those interested may view a complete listing of characters online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org/collections/auditions.
